ABB Automated Drone Fleet for Mansfield Dam
In 2016 I was asked to research a proof of concept for my employer ABB. The idea was that we would create a fleet of autonomous drones that could clean and inspect Mansfield Dam outside of Austin Texas on a regular cadence. The dam itself consists of equipment and infrastructure that is sometimes dangerous for humans to reach but that also requires constant inspection. The value of building a fleet of drones was to safely and consistently inspect parts of the dam without putting an employee in danger.
My job was to gather user requirements. I was learning what the dam maintenance workers did every day so that the software engineers could properly program the robots to do the same thing. There was a lot that the humans could do that the drones couldn't and visa-versa. After visiting the dam I created a report that was used to gauge the viability of the project.
Cisco Ai Assistant
The Cisco Ai Assistant will launch in the summer of 2024. I've been leading a team of Designers to explore how an Ai might help a security analyst quickly manage incidents. Designs will be forthcoming after the RSA Conference in May. Make sure to tune into RSA to learn about this product as it will be a game-changer for Cisco's security customers.
MIT Course Assignment: Could Ai Tell Us If It Came from Kitum Cave?
In 2023 I took an MIT certificate course on product design for Ai. This article summarizes one of my assignments from the program.
Training My People To Design for ai
It was important to me to share what I had learned from the MIT certificate program with my direct reports and other colleagues at Cisco. I put together this video that gave my people a general sense of Ai product design.
